Board of Director Positions

President

The​ ​role​ ​of​ ​the​ ​President​ ​is​ ​to​ ​supervise​ ​and​ ​preside​ ​over​ ​the​ ​affairs​ ​of WODS.

Duties​ ​and​ ​responsibilities​ ​of​ ​the​ ​President​ ​shall​ ​include​ ​the​ ​following:

  • be the Chief Executive Officer of the Organization and exercise all such powers as the Organization may do, subject only to the limitations of these by-laws and decisions made by the Board of Directors;
  • be​ ​responsible​ ​for​ ​the​ ​upkeep​ ​and​ ​enforcement​ ​of​ ​the​ ​By-laws​;
  • chair all meetings of the Board of Directors and the membership;
  • ensure appropriate transfer of information to new Directors;
  • oversee all paid staff on behalf of the Organization; and
  • other duties as required.

Director of Finance/Treasurer

Duties​ ​and​ ​responsibilities​ ​of​ ​the​ Director of Finance/Treasurer ​shall​ ​include​ ​the​ ​following:

  • have the care and custody of all funds of the Organization;
  • ensure that the Organization has at least one account with a chartered bank, a credit union, or a trust company for the deposit of funds;
  • keep proper accounting records with respect to all financial transactions affecting the Organization;
  • render financial statements to the Board of Directors and/or to the membership as required by the Board of Directors;
  • ensure timely processing of all financial transactions;
  • create and present the budget at the Annual General Meeting;
  • ensure fiscal responsibility within the organization; and
  • review​ ​the​ ​accounting records,​ ​bank​ ​reconciliation​ ​and​ ​bank​ ​statements​ ​at​ ​least​ ​once​ ​every month.

Secretary

Duties​ ​and​ ​responsibilities​ ​of​ ​the​ Secretary ​shall​ ​include​ ​the​ ​following:

  • see that all necessary books and records of the Organization required by the By-laws of the Organization or by any applicable statute or law are regularly and properly kept;
  • schedule meetings of the Board and create the agenda;
  • be responsible for giving proper notice to all Members of General Meetings and to all Directors for upcoming meetings of the Board of Directors;
  • ensure that the minutes of all Board meetings and General Meetings are recorded and distributed among the Directors and made available to the membership;
  • handle field logistics and issues such as rental and permit changes;
  • ensure​ ​suitable​ ​insurance​ ​is​ ​held​ ​for​ ​all​ WODS ​sanctioned​ ​events and​ ​operations;
  • other duties as required.

Communications Director

Duties​ ​and​ ​responsibilities​ ​of​ ​the​ Communications Director ​shall​ ​include​ ​the​ ​following:

  • be the primary contact for communication with Members, media, community and government and non-government authorities;
  • ensure conformity of and provide oversight to the WODS website and related social media assets;
  • ensure timely response to any incoming communications; and
  • other duties as required.

Leagues Director

Duties​ ​and​ ​responsibilities​ ​of​ ​the​ Leagues Director ​shall​ ​include​ ​the​ ​following:

  • oversee all creation and management aspects of the different leagues operated by the Organization;
  • recruit and support league coordinators;
  • review any discipline issues that arise; and
  • other duties as required.

Events Director

Duties​ ​and​ ​responsibilities​ ​of​ ​the Events Director ​shall​ ​include​ ​the​ ​following:

  • ensure tournaments are run successfully;
  • act as or appoint on-site tournament director;
  • coordinate volunteers for events; and
  • other duties as required.

Youth Director

Duties​ ​and​ ​responsibilities​ ​of​ ​the Youth Director ​shall​ ​include​ ​the​ ​following:

  • oversee WODS youth programs in coordination with other directors;
  • act as a liaison between WODS and other regional parties related to youth disc sports;
  • recruit and ensure that youth specific volunteers are properly trained;
  • ensure ​all​ ​volunteers​ ​that will interact with individuals under the age of 19 produce​ ​a​ ​background​ ​check​ ​done​ ​by​ ​the​ Region of Waterloo​ ​Police​ ​Department; and
  • other duties as required.

At-large Representative

(1 Female & 1 Male preferred; less than 5 years disc sports board experience)

Responsibilities:

  • Select 1 or 2 board positions to mentor under for the year
  • Expectation is that you will aid selected directors with their portfolio and build your skills for future years of board activity.
